Peʻahi fern (also known as lauaʻe) is endemic to Hawaiʻi. It was traditionally used in hula adornments, but is now rare in Hawaiian forests. The plant that is commonly called lauaʻe nowadays is actually introduced from Australia. So... peʻahi is the original lauaʻe!
