Hawaiʻi's native plants and animals are fighting for survival against invasive species. Over 10,000 non-native plants and animals have been introduced to the Hawaiian Islands, with many of them posing risks to native ecosystems. Invasive predators such as cats, rats, and mongoose prey upon native wildlife, hunting native birds and predating nests. Invasive plants transform native forests by outcompeting native plants and altering soil chemistry. This tee is our way of standing up for native species and ecosystems. Based upon a true story, this design features an ʻio (Hawaiian hawk) carrying a mongoose in its talons-- a momentous example of native species fighting back.
