The Hawaiʻi ʻākepa is a tiny honeycreeper found in high-elevation ʻōhiʻa and koa forests of Hawaiʻi Island. They nest in tree cavities and use their crossed bills to pry insects from buds. These endangered birds are threatened by habitat loss and mosquito-borne avian malaria.
