Pulelehua, the Kamehameha butterfly (Vanessa tameamea), is a forest dweller found only in Hawaiʻi. Their caterpillars feed on native plants in the nettle family like māmaki and ʻōpuhe, making it an important pollinator and ecological ally. Their presence signals intact, functioning ecosystems.
