A stunning gold enamel pin with an intricately designed Hawaiian sphinx. The perfect addition to any clothing or accessory.
The Hawaiian sphinx (Hyles calida) is an endemic Hawaiian moth. The larvae feed exclusively on the leaves of native plants in the coffee family (Rubiaceae), such as ‘ahakea, kōpiko, and manono.
Hawai‘i is home to roughly 1,000 native moth species, including a handful of species in the sphinx moth family (Sphingidae). The name ‘ōka‘i refers to a large moth that flies at night, which perfectly describes sphinx moths. Conservation for native moths includes habitat protection/restoration and invasive species management. Additionally, research and surveys are necessary to better understand diversity and population trends.
