The ʻamaʻu fern is endemic to Hawaiʻi. The new growth is a beautiful red color that slowly turns green over time. Traditional use: Fronds were used for hale roofs. Bark was used to dye kapa. Various parts of the plant were also used medicinally in lāʻau lapaʻau.
